Modern, electrified drives require an adapted test environment. The Center for Mobile Propulsion, CMP for short, has flexible transmission test benches with three electric input and output machines.
In these state-of-the-art and variable transmission test benches, a wide variety of motor-transmission combinations can be researched using a modular platform. Various input and output dynamos can be mounted to the transmission under test to model dynamic cycles and test automatic and manual shifts.
A typical transmission input in the CMP consists of a 251 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum torque of 600 Nm at 4000 rpm.
The maximum speed is 9000 rpm, but speeds of up to 18000 rpm are also possible with the aid of a step-up gearbox.
The electric motor with an inertia of 0.078 kg m² enables the cyclical fluctuations of a combustion engine to be simulated. The two gearbox outputs make it possible to test a differential. Each gearbox output consists of a 286 kW asynchronous motor with a maximum torque of 3400 Nm at 1515 rpm. The maximum speed is 4080 rpm.
There is also a control and automation system, a damage detection system and oil and test bench conditioning. As in all other test facilities at the Center for Mobile Propulsion, it is possible to simulate a wide range of thermal boundary conditions in order to create a realistic representation of the vehicle environment. This means that our transmission laboratory has a comprehensive and modern set-up for testing the latest hybrid transmissions.
