The FemtoTools FT-NMT04 NanoMechanical Testing System is an in-situ nanomechanical testing instrument designed for quantitative mechanical characterization of materials at the micro- and nanoscale. The system combines MEMS-based force sensing technology with a high-precision piezoelectric actuator, enabling displacement-controlled nanoindentation and other micromechanical testing techniques directly inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The instrument offers ultra-low force sensing noise down to approximately 500 pN, allowing highly sensitive measurements of mechanical response. Furthermore, the true displacement-controlled operation enables the evaluation of mechanical properties of brittle materials, which is often challenging with load-controlled devices. The instrument uses interchangeable microforce sensing probes equipped with various diamond tip geometries, such as Berkovich, cube-corner, conospherical, and flat-punch tips, enabling different mechanical testing configurations.
